Officer Killed in Caliente Shootout
A police officer was killed early Friday during a shootout at the police station here, according to Lincoln County Sheriff Harold Woodworth.
Woodworth said a pair of Caliente brothers have been booked on open murder charges in the death of officer Crag A. Love.
Love, 26, the father of one child, moved here from the South Lake Tahoe area recently, and had been on the police force for only about four months, Woodworth said.
The Sheriff said Love had made an arrest during the night, and was in the police station researching the statutes on the case when the two brothers entered the station about 4 p.m. and began shooting.
Love managed to get off several shots, and the younger Harrington was hit twice, according to Woodworth.
He was taken to Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital in Las Vegas, about 160 miles south of this town of 900, and was reported in satisfactory condition.
Lloyd Harrington was being held in the local jail.
Woodworth said the Harringtons were acquainted with the suspect in the case Love was researching at the time of the shootout.
