Lander County Deputy Sheriff Killed Tuesday

Fred Nelson, a Lander county deputy sheriff, was killed early Tuesday when his car left Highway 8A three miles south of Battle Mountain.

Sheriff Don Maestretti said Nelson, 40, was alone in the car which overturned several times. Maestretti said Nelsen, who became a deputy this month, was answering a radio message to report to the officer here when the accident occurred.

Nelsen was the 71st to die in Nevada highway accidents this year. The total was 66 on the same date in 1965. Services for Nelson are being arranged at the Eddy Funeral Home in Winnemucca.
