Reno Motorcycle Cop Killed in Crash with SUV
A Reno police officer en route to a traffic accident on a motorcycle was killed in a crash with a sports utility vehicle Thursday afternoon at an intersection south of downtown.
Officer Mike Scofield, a 25 year veteran of the force who was a year away from retirement, was one of two officers on motorcycles bound for the three-car accident about noon when the SUV apparently pulled in front of him from a driveway partially obscured by trees.
The driver of the Toyota SUV, Anna Marie Jackson, 25, Reno, has not been cited, police said. The crash remained under investigation by Reno police and the Nevada Highway Patrol…
The officers were eastbound on Mill Street toward McCarran Boulevard about 4 miles from the downtown casino district when Jackson pulled out of a private drive, turning left onto Mill Street and into their patch between Ohm and Edison streets, McGill said.
Scofield slammed on his brakes but struck the front end of the Toyota, he said…
Scofield is survived by his wife and four grown children. Weston said.
